Alfred Villanueva is a self-taught illustrator from the Philippines. Creating art is his first love and was thrilled when the opportunity to illustrate and adult colouring book arose in 2015 using traditional techniques with pen and ink to create his designs called Viworksart Series.
How long have you been illustrating and what made you start?
I've been illustrating professionally for almost 4 years now as an indie artist/freelance illustrator. I’m self taught and art has been my passion ever since I was young, but life took over so I needed to let go of my first love that is creating art for awhile. Fast forward to 7 years after graduating college I never thought that I would go back to my passion again but when I was given the opportunity to publish my illustrations in an adult colouring book way back in 2015 that's when I got to learn to love it and give it a second chance.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I'm good at creating my own concepts and inspiration just comes to me. I can't explain it but somehow when I create art It needs to have a theme/concept that revolves around it, so meaning anything under the sun.
Where is your favourite place to illustrate?
Does my bedroom count? Haha
What are your illustrating/colouring material essentials?
I do use fine liner pens most of the time as I still like to draw by hand. Then I use editing programs on my computer to colour my illustrations. Then you end up with the pictures attached to this Q&A.
What’s the piece of work that you’re most proud of or enjoyed doing the most?
The art I enjoyed doing the most is my lined portraits that I developed over the years which turned into my signature art style.
