MEET THE ARTIST

Chet Minton

Introducing Chet Minton, featured artist from Fantasy Creatures Special (95) and Christmas Gnomes Special (94).

How long have you been illustrating and what made you start?
So I have been an artist since I can remember. In fact every picture of me from a young age had me holding crayons or cats! LOL! I was working as a part time freelance artist most of my life. It wasn't until I had to become the full-time care provider for both my parents and needed to quit my job, that I made the move to full time illustrator.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Like so many artists, I get my ideas and inspirations from everywhere around me. I do enjoy Fantasy/Sc-Fi/Gothic genre artwork, tv shows, movies, books and comics.

Where is your favourite place to illustrate?
I have a dedicated studio in my house. I have everything I need there, but I do make pilgrimages outdoors and into the deep woods!

What are your illustrating/colouring material essentials?
For my work, I am usually requested to provide digitally colored images. I do however pencil and ink in a more traditional manner. When I do have the chance to colour traditionally, I use Copic coloring makers, coloured pencils, conte crayons, gouache and watercolours.

What’s the piece of work that you’re most proud of or enjoyed doing the most?
Wow. I'd say it is hard to narrow down just one piece I'd say was my favourite. I will say I am fond of a piece I recently have done called Gaea - Mother goddess. Gaea is a Titan or Goddess that derives from the Greek Mythos. She represents the Earth and Earth Magic. I decided to make my interpretations with an African Twist. I really enjoy the touch of sunlight and moonlight bathing her from both sides.
