MEET THE ARTIST

Honey Debney

Introducing Honey Debney, featured artist from Collection Mandalas (25), Collection Sealife (36) and Christmas Special (81).

Honey Debney is a self-taught artist living and working in Bath, UK. She has always loved art but started illustrating seriously when she went to university. Whilst there she helped run an Illustration Society and things have grown from there. Honey Debney is also a member of the Colouring Heaven team! She currently works as the Deputy Content Editor.

How long have you been illustrating and what made you start?
I've always loved drawing but I started illustrating seriously when I went to university, which was about 5 years ago now.

Where do you get your inspiration?
There's lots of different places I get my inspiration. Sometimes it's from the world around me – if we're moving into a new season, the changes in nature often inspire me. The films and books I'm watching/reading at that moment in time often inspire me too. What it boils down to is emotions – that's what really inspires me. What does the change in seasons make me feel, how does the book I'm reading make me feel? That's what I'll try and get across in my art.

Where is your favourite place to illustrate?
Usually cosied up on the sofa with a hot drink and a good movie playing.

What are your illustrating/colouring material essentials?
I always come back to digital illustration, so my essentials are my iPad and Apple Pencil.

What’s the piece of work that you’re most proud of or enjoyed doing the most?
I think I'm similar to a lot of other artists in that I'm usually most proud of the piece of work I've most recently finished. So right now, it's this Mandala Collection issue.

Artist's tip

Art and colouring is meant to be fun. So worry about whether you're enjoying it, not how 'good' you are. Most importantly, don't compare yourself to others – it'll never do you any good!
