Sergey is a paleoartist from Ukraine. For over 30 years now, he's drawn dinosaurs - he has been involved in paleontology since his childhood and it became a lifelong hobby. As Sergey was living in Donbas in Ukraine with his wife, Helen, and their two children, they have now moved to Kharkov where things are safer.
How long have you been illustrating and what made you start?
I am 39 years old, 30 of which I have drawn dinosaurs. I am an artist by my diploma. I graduated from Lugansk Art College. I have been involved in paleontology since my childhood and it became my hobby for life.
Where do you get your inspiration?
As I already mentioned, paleoart first of all is a hobby for me. I feel joy when I draw. And only then is it a means of income.
What are your illustrating/colouring material essentials?
I’m a graduate of the classic, traditional school of drawing. Realism is my style and I use classic gouache and watercolour.
What’s the piece of work that you’re most proud of or enjoyed doing the most?
I do not have a special attachment to a particular kind of dinosaur. Maybe I can distinguish the whole group Theropoda as my favorite? Probably many boys love predators, as I did in my childhood and this infatuation stayed with me since those days.
Because of the difficult situation in my country now, there are few paleoartists here. I feel like a pioneer. I hope my works will make many talented, young people pay attention to this kind of art.
